- Required Language: English

- Minimum age of 18 years on February 1 of the scholarship year.
- Not a citizen of Australia, a permanent resident, or seeking permanent residency in Australia.
- A citizen of a participating country, applying from their country of citizenship.
- Not married, engaged, or in a de facto relationship with an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident during the application process.
- Not previously awarded a long-term Australia Award unless they have resided outside of Australia for double the duration of their previous award.
- Not currently serving in the military.
- Satisfy specific criteria set by the applicant’s country of citizenship or the Program Area (e.g., years of work experience in a relevant sector).
- Meet all Department of Home Affairs requirements for a Student Visa.
- Meet admission requirements of the institution where the award will be undertaken.
- Not applying for a scholarship for a lower academic level than already achieved (e.g., applying for a Master’s scholarship with an existing Ph.D.).
- Disclose any connections or relationships with Program Area staff or managing contractors transparently.
