The Bachelor of Applied Commerce - Accounting Major (HE20511A) builds practical skills in accounting and taxation. Students complete core units that cover foundations of accounting, finance and investment, commercial law, income tax law, accounting information systems, and financial accounting, along with advanced topics such as advanced financial accounting, advanced management accounting, and contemporary accounting concepts.

Learning combines theory with practical course work and includes a professional experience work placement. During the course, students undertake 60 hours of mandatory work placement, and TAFE NSW arranges the placement with a suitable industry employer. Students study in small classes, and the learning includes use of accounting and Xero tax software.

The course is designed for students who want to prepare for accounting-related careers such as becoming an accountant, tax agent, business manager, or financial analyst. Graduates develop professional skills and may be eligible to apply for professional membership into Certified Practising Accountants Australia (CPA) and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ). Graduates may also be eligible to register to the Tax Practitioners’ Board (TPB) as a tax agent.
