The Bachelor of Applied Commerce majoring in Financial Planning at TAFE NSW develops practical skills and confidence for a financial planning career. You study core units including Foundations of Accounting, Finance and Investment, Commercial Law I and II, Income Tax law, Psychology of Client Engagement, and Financial Planning Fundamentals. You also study units such as Insurance Planning, Investment Analysis, Estate Planning, Superannuation and Retirement, and Financial Plan Construction.
TAFE NSW includes a professional experience work placement during the course. Work placement is mandatory for 60 hours, and TAFE NSW arranges placement with a suitable industry employer. The program combines theory and practical course work and uses financial planning software, with assessment through activities such as creating detailed advice documents and statements.
TAFE NSW states the course supports careers such as becoming a financial planner or associate, a specialist financial adviser, or a client service manager. It also states graduates may be eligible to apply for professional membership to the Financial Advice Association Australia (FAAA) and may be eligible to register with the Tax Practitioners’ Board (TPB) as a tax (financial) adviser.
