TAFE NSW’s Bachelor of Creative Practice prepares you for the creative industries with a focus on visual arts or music. You build creative, technical and business skills through real projects, with learning that combines theory and practical course work. The course outcomes include analysing and applying techniques in your chosen art area, building business skills for arts careers, and understanding your work in a wider context, including culture, history, technology and theory.

The course includes a major body of work for a professional portfolio and requires successful completion of 21 subjects (240 credit points): 19 core subjects and 2 elective subjects. Your year 3 subject, CPCPP301A Creative Practice Capstone Project, is worth 30 credit points. TAFE NSW states that teachers work in the industry and that students receive one-on-one studio support, with opportunities to work with others on live performances, exhibitions and other arts events.

This course is for students with a relevant diploma or advanced diploma. TAFE NSW assesses previous study for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and credit transfer, and if approved, the degree may be completed in less time and at a lower cost depending on the credit you receive and whether you study full time or part time.

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol.

You must demonstrate that you have achieved one of the following:

• a NSW HSC (Higher School Certificate) or equivalent, or
• Completion of a Recognised Tertiary Preparation Certificate, or
• A qualification from a Registered Training Organisation at Certificate IV level or above, or
• Successful completion of at least one year full-time (or equivalent) study in a course at a higher education institution.

You must also :

• Attend a consultation (in person or online) with our academic team to discuss your creative background and study goals. This informal discussion is designed to help you find the right pathway for success in the course.
• Submit 3 examples of your original creative work. For example: visual artworks (for the Visual Arts specialisation), or music you have produced or performed (for the Music Production and Performance specialisation).

You will be advised during the application process on how to submit your creative work.

Your certificates, transcripts and other entry requirement evidence must be certified through a Justice of the Peace or other authorising officer.
