The Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Engineering) at TAFE NSW builds essential knowledge and technical skills to design, implement, and manage big data systems and supporting infrastructure. You develop practical expertise in data analysis, machine learning, AI engineering, data security, cloud computing using AWS and Microsoft Azure, and emerging database technologies. This enables you to design and deliver real-world data solutions.

TAFE NSW states that learning combines theory and practical course work. You learn to apply knowledge in networking, data engineering, and data analytics frameworks. You also conduct ICT research in data engineering and analysis, evaluating new information and technologies from multiple sources, and communicate results to different audiences. Completion requirements include completing 24 subjects (240 credit points) with 21 core and 3 elective subjects.

TAFE NSW states that the qualification and experience prepare graduates for roles in data-driven IT solutions and complex data ecosystems. Course outcomes include graduating with a bachelor’s degree and having skills and knowledge to work as a data engineer, including the ability to design, implement, and manage big data, data systems, and their infrastructure.

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol.

• You must demonstrate that you have achieved one of the following:
• a NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent, shown by a certified copy of your certificate or transcript
• a Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation or equivalent, shown by a certified copy of your certificate or transcript
• a completed Certificate IV or higher vocational qualification, shown by a certified copy of your certificate or transcript.

You must also:

• submit a 500-word essay showing your motivation to study and work in the information technology industry
• attend a pre-admission interview. You may be asked to complete a short literacy and numeracy task to help us identify how we can support your study success.
• have mathematics knowledge to HSC level or equivalent. If not, you may need to complete a bridging program or preparatory course.
• All certificates, transcripts and other evidence of entry requirements must be certified by a Justice of the Peace or another authorised officer.

You do not require an ATAR score for entry into this course. If you are unable to meet the entry requirements, you may be eligible for special admission, including identification as mature aged (at least 21 years old in your first year of study) or disadvantaged.
