Diploma of Aboriginal Studies for Professional Practice 11222nat

The Diploma of Aboriginal Studies for Professional Practice (11222NAT-01) at TAFE NSW builds knowledge of Aboriginal cultures, protocols, and history. Students learn to engage effectively with the community, understand Aboriginal cultural practices, analyse Aboriginal history and intergenerational trauma, and recognise available support services. The course also includes ethical practices, leadership skills for community contributions, and research to gain up-to-date industry information.

TAFE NSW teaches the qualification through a mix of theory and practical course work. Students complete 14 units of competency, including 4 core and 10 specialty units. Core units cover Aboriginal cultures, invasion effects on Aboriginal society, Aboriginal human rights and social justice issues, and research ethics with community engagement. Specialty units include topics such as board meetings, cultural safety, policy work, partnerships, communication, and workplace documents.

This qualification is nationally accredited at diploma level. The course is intended to prepare learners for service delivery roles with Aboriginal people, including employment opportunities in chosen fields.
