Diploma of Building and Construction Building Cpc50220

The Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) (CPC50220-01) at TAFE NSW develops skills for supervisory roles in the building industry. You learn to apply building codes and standards, legal requirements and structural principles, and you also complete work that supports planning and project administration.

The course combines theory with practical course work. It includes activities such as preparing building sketches and drawings, performing site surveys to set out a building site, estimating and monitoring costs, scheduling labour and materials, and managing project quality, risks, contracts and contractor performance.

TAFE NSW states the course prepares you for opportunities in your chosen field, including supervising project progress and managing staff. The course also states it supports applying for an NSW builders licence with additional requirements, and starting a building enterprise.

• Apply legal requirements to building and construction projects (CPCCBC4009)
• Apply structural principles to residential and commercial constructions (CPCCBC4010)
• Read and interpret plans and specifications (CPCCBC4012)
• Prepare and evaluate tender documentation (CPCCBC4013)
• Prepare simple building sketches and drawings (CPCCBC4014)

• This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol.
• Successful completion of the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building), as evidenced by a copy of your transcript or certificate, or
• Successful completion of 11 core units CPCCBC4001, CPCCBC4003, CPCCBC4004, CPCCBC4005, CPCCBC4008, CPCCBC4009, CPCCBC4010, CPCCBC4012, CPCCBC4014, CPCCBC4018, CPCCBC4053 as evidenced by a copy of your transcript.
• That you hold a valid general construction induction card (commonly known as a white card).
• Before your first day of class you must complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills test and achieve a score of 4 across the five bands of literacy and 4 across one band of numeracy. This helps us to determine that your skills match the demands of the course, to direct you to an alternative study option or to provide you with the appropriate support for your success. Your teacher will let you know when this must be completed.
