TAFE NSW’s Diploma of Customs Broking (TLI50822-01) prepares you for customs work by teaching you to operate customs clearance and follow the legal framework for customs broking procedures. You learn to determine tariff classification, calculate customs value and duty payable, apply biosecurity border clearance requirements, and understand laws and policies for imports, exports, and international trade agreements.

The qualification is delivered through a mixture of theory and practical course work. You complete 14 units of competency, including 14 core units. Through your studies, you also learn to report cargo movements to border force, identify prohibited and restricted goods, decide if a valid permit is required, and resolve disputes about tariff classifications, valuations, and permits. A nationally accredited diploma is accepted as an approved course of study to obtain a customs broking license.
