Diploma of Dental Technology Hlt55118

TAFE NSW offers the Diploma of Dental Technology (HLT55118). You study health communication and working in health settings, plus dental technology units focused on making digital dental restorations and appliances. Your core study includes constructing registration rims, thermoformed bases and appliances, immediate dentures, removable dentures and partial dentures, crown and bridge structures, orthodontic appliances, oral splints, and ceramic and fixed restorations.

The course combines theory and practical coursework and includes access to a modern laboratory with equipment to construct and repair dental prosthetics. You also use Computer Aided Design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) tools. Some units require workplace assessments, with a TAFE NSW teacher or assessor attending Sydney Dental Hospital with you. A manual dexterity test is also required.

Before the first clinical experience in a NSW Health facility, you will need to show evidence that you:

• Hold a valid Australian Working with Children Check (WWCC)
• Hold a valid Australian National Police Record Check
• Have a signed NSW Health code of conduct form and any other forms, as required by NSW health
• Undertake an occupational assessment, screening and vaccinations against infectious diseases, and can provide your health care worker/student vaccination record card
• Must participate in a manual dexterity test to ensure an appropriate level of dexterity to enable you to complete complex manual tasks involved in dental technology
