TAFE NSW’s Diploma of Electronics and Communications Engineering UEE50520 covers operating principles of electronic equipment, microcontroller-based systems, and electronic and digital equipment for voice and data communication. Students also estimate material and labour costs for electrotechnology projects and study the theoretical aspects of electricity.
The course uses a mix of theory and practical coursework. Students practise skills in industry-standard workshops with electrotechnology software applications and fixed, portable and hand-held tools. The qualification requires competency in all core competency standard units and a combination of elective competency standard units to reach a total weighting of 1600 points.
Graduates may prepare for roles including Technical Officer (electronic and communications engineering) and Telecommunications Technical Officer. The course also builds professional qualities such as attention to detail, time management, self-management, communication, and teamwork.
