TAFE NSW’s Diploma of Laboratory Technology (Chemistry) is designed to prepare you for work in the laboratory operations industry as a qualified laboratory technical officer or technician. You develop skills and knowledge to work safely in a laboratory environment and perform analytical chemistry tasks.

The course uses a mixture of theory and practical course work. You learn to follow workplace procedures, use sampling and sample pre-treatment techniques, analyse samples for chemical constituents, monitor quality of test results and data, use laboratory application software, and maintain and calibrate instruments and equipment.

To complete the qualification, you complete 18 units of competency, including 5 core and 13 speciality units. You are preparing for opportunities such as laboratory technical officer and calibration technician.

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol.

• Completion of the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques as evidenced by a copy of your transcript or certificate, or
• Completion of a Certificate IV or higher in a relevant science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) discipline, as evidenced by your transcript or certificate, or
• You have technical laboratory skills, knowledge and employment experience as evidenced by a resume highlighting your experience in the area
