Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services Production Design Cua50425

The Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services (Production Design) at TAFE NSW trains students in research and design to create visual elements for live production, film and television. Students learn outcomes that include designing lighting for film, theatre and live events, coordinating stage and set design, applying special effects and makeup, and designing and making props.

TAFE NSW states the course uses a mixture of theory and practical course work. The qualification requires successful completion of 15 units of competency, including 4 core and 11 specialty units. Core and specialty units cover safe creative practice, creative industry knowledge, computer-aided design (CAD) skills, and technical production tasks such as operating lighting and producing sets.

This course leads to a nationally accredited diploma level qualification, and TAFE NSW lists career pathways including production designer, art director, props designer or supervisor, lighting designer, and costume designer.

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol.

• You must have live production skills and experience. This may include stage sets, props or other production design, as shown by a portfolio of your relevant design work.
• You must attend an interview with our teaching staff to make sure the course is the right level for your skills and experience.
• Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 12 high school level.

TAFE NSW may ask you to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills test. This skills test helps us to understand your individual study needs, to design an individualised plan that supports your study success and ensures your LLN skills match the demands of the course.
