The Diploma of Renewable Energy Engineering at TAFE NSW teaches clean energy and how renewable energy systems work. You build a foundation in engineering, energy storage, and solar (PV) systems. You also develop practical skills in maths, physics, and programming, and you learn to explain benefits and challenges of renewable energy.

Coursework combines theory and practical work. Completion requires 8 subjects (80 credit points), made up of 8 core subjects. The course includes learning about solar power systems that connect to the grid, battery storage, hydrogen energy, and pumped hydro systems, plus skills for design, installation, maintenance, and compliance and safety standards.

On completion, you may receive up to 48 credit points. Graduates can apply for provisional accreditation from Clean Energy Council (CEC). If you plan to study the UTS Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), these credits can count towards one year of study through recognition of prior learning (RPL).

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol.

• You must demonstrate that you have achieved one of the following:
  a NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent
  a Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation or equivalent
  a Certificate IV or higher vocational qualification.
• You must also:
  have maths at HSC level or equivalent and complete a skills assessment; if you don’t, you may need a bridging or preparatory course.
• Note:
  You must have your certificates, transcripts and other documents certified by a Justice of the Peace or other authorised officer.

If you are unable to meet the entry requirements, you may be eligible for special admission. You will be guided to identify as mature aged (at least 21 years old in your first year of study) or disadvantaged (disability, serious or chronic illness, interrupted education, lack of support for study, serious personal problems and/or serious family responsibilities).
