Armenian Studies Scholarship International Kerkyasharian and Kayikian Fund

The University of Sydney awards the Kerkyasharian and Kayikian Fund for Armenian Studies to provide financial support to students and academic staff to undertake research into Armenian studies. The funding is for project or activity expenses, with the scholarship value determined by a selection committee and stated in the scholarship offer letter.

Eligibility covers honours students, postgraduate research students (masters by research and PhD), or academic affiliates employed by the University of Sydney. Applicants must conduct research in Armenian studies from the 19th century or earlier and apply for project or activity funding for expenses expected to be incurred within twelve months from the scholarship application opening date.

Selection is based on academic excellence and merit, curriculum vitae, budget summary and justification, and the research project or activity. A selection committee made up of staff from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences nominates the successful applicant, and the committee separately considers staff and student categories.

The scholarship value is paid as a one-off payment after receipt of the Scholarship Acceptance Form. It can fund items such as travel for primary research, research assistance, purchase and/or reproduction of research materials, and activities to showcase research outputs, with additional possible considerations like marking relief and conference-related expenses. The scholarship terminates on resignation/withdrawal or completion of maximum candidature, and it can be suspended during any enquiry/appeal process. Recipients must acknowledge scholarship support in media and provide a short written report and a financial report after completing the project or activities.

• Applicants must be an honours or postgraduate research student in, or an academic affiliate employed by, the University of Sydney.
• Applicants must conduct research in 19th century or earlier Armenian studies.
• Applicants must be applying for project or activity funding for expenses detailed in Clauses 4.c and/or 4.d of the terms and conditions.
• Applicants must expect those expenses to be incurred within twelve months from the scholarship application opening date.
• For student applicants: applicants must be currently enrolled in an honours, masters by research or PhD at the University of Sydney at the time of scholarship application closing date.
• For staff applicants: applicants must be an academic affiliate in a fixed term or continuing position employed at the University of Sydney at the time of scholarship application closing date.

• Scholarship value determined by the selection committee and stipulated in the scholarship offer letter to the recipient(s).
• Payment is a one-off payment after a receipt of the Scholarship Acceptance Form.
• Funds expenses such as travel for primary research.
• Funds expenses such as research assistance.
• Funds expenses such as purchase and/or reproduction of research materials.
• Funds expenses such as activities to showcase research outputs.
• The committee also considers funding for marking relief.
• The committee also considers funding for conference-related expenses.
• The committee also considers funding for visits to the University by scholarly experts.
• The committee also considers funding for holding of conferences and seminars in a relevant field.
• The scholarship will not fund teaching relief.
• The scholarship will not fund the purchase of computers, audio visual equipment or similar hardware.
• No other amount is payable.
