Australia Psychology Graduate Scholarships

The Psychology Graduate Scholarship Program is part of the School Counselling Service scholarships available for those planning to join the School Counselling Service. The scholarship requires recipients to sign a scholarship agreement with the department and to successfully complete required studies and training.

Applicants must have completed or be completing a 4-year sequence of APAC accredited psychology studies and be eligible to apply for the Master of Professional Psychology (School Psychology). For applicants completing fourth year in, entry into the program depends on successfully completing the fourth year of study. The Master of Professional Psychology (School Psychology) is run by Charles Sturt University for department scholarship recipients only.

Selection is a three-part process: written application shortlisting, live assessment using the Microsoft 360 Teams platform, and final selection. Meeting the eligibility criteria is the first step, followed by review of application question responses, supporting statements, academic record to date, and nominated School Staffing Areas. Final selection is based on the application, nominated staffing areas, live assessment outcomes, academic results to date, and university requirements.

Scholarship recipients must accept an appointment as a permanent full-time school psychologist to a NSW public school in a location aligned with their Scholarship Agreement upon completion of required studies and training. Recipients must remain appointed in the permanent full-time school psychologist position for a minimum period of 3 years, and attain and maintain General Registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.

• If completing fourth year in 2026, entry into the 2027 program will be dependent on successfully completing the fourth year of study.
• Yes, an applicant can apply if their current studies will successfully be completed prior to the end of the 2026 calendar year and they meet the eligibility criteria.
• Scholarships are available for teachers to retrain as school counsellors; if a teacher wishes to apply for the Psychology Graduate Scholarship Program, they can and, at the end of their studies, they will be appointed as a school counsellor.
• Priority will be given to applicants prepared to work in rural NSW.
• A scholarship recipient cannot be engaged as a school psychologist with the department while studying the Master of Professional Psychology (School Psychology).

• Required studies and training under a scholarship agreement.
• Appointment as a permanent full-time school psychologist to a NSW public school in one of the locations aligned with their Scholarship Agreement upon completion of the required studies and training.
• A commitment to remain appointed in the permanent full-time school psychologist position for a minimum period of 3 years.

1. Apply during the application period using the 'Apply now' button on the School Counselling Service Scholarships webpage.
2. Outside the application period, register for updates to be notified when future applications open.
3. Complete the application form, which is a writable/interactive PDF with fields that can be filled in using the Forms tool in most PDF viewers (including Acrobat, Chrome, and Bluebeam).
4. Submit the application during the application period, ensuring all required supporting documents are included at the time of submission.
5. After submission, expect an acknowledgement email within 48 hours; retain copies of all emails.
6. If a confirmation email is not received, email the department's Student Wellbeing Recruitment team via [email protected].
7. If shortlisted, attend an online live assessment using the Microsoft 360 Teams platform when invited by email from a department email address.

• Referee supporting statement (primary referee supporting statement to be completed by the applicant’s current work place supervisor they have worked with within the last 12 months).
