Dean’s funding at University of Sydney Law School

The University of Sydney Law School Dean’s Scholarship is intended to assist exceptional international students commencing a Juris Doctor (JD) or Master of Laws (LLM) course at the University of Sydney Law School. The scholarship is funded by the Sydney Law School and is awarded based on a stated selection process and eligibility conditions.

The scholarship is aimed at international students who have an unconditional offer of admission for full-time study in either a JD or LLM within the University of Sydney Law School. It applies to applicants who are commencing the relevant degree; it excludes people who have already commenced JD or LLM studies or who are transferring into these programs from another postgraduate program.

Selection is based on academic merit and a personal statement addressing leadership experience, communication skills, personal interests, community engagement, and reasons for pursuing the study of law. A selection committee consisting of the Head of School and Dean of the Sydney Law School, or their nominated delegate, plus one other staff member from the School, makes the nomination and award decision.

Support is offered as either full tuition fees for the duration of the degree or $10,000 per annum for the duration of the degree, with payment in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester. Ongoing receipt requires maintaining a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65, full-time enrolment (24 credit points) each semester, and for exchange students during the tenure, a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive the next payment. The scholarship can be terminated under specified circumstances and cannot be reinstated unless due to University error; in cases of serious misconduct or termination under the terms, the University may request reimbursement of funds paid.

• You are not eligible if you have already commenced your studies in a JD or LLM.
• You are not eligible if you are transferring into one of those programs from another postgraduate program.
