University of Queensland UQ Refugee and Humanitarian Scholarship

The UQ Refugee and Humanitarian Scholarship is funded by The University of Queensland (UQ). UQ states that the scholarship provides students from refugee or asylum seeker backgrounds the opportunity to pursue higher education in any desired discipline at UQ.

UQ states that applicants must be or plan to be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at UQ, across all study areas. Enrolment status includes both future UQ students and current UQ students, and the scholarship is for international students.

UQ states eligibility is based on enrolment (or planned enrolment) in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at UQ, holding specified Australian visas (or eligible Bridging visas), not having previously received the scholarship for the same level of study, not holding another similar scholarship, and being able to demonstrate financial hardship with documentary evidence.

UQ states the scholarship duration is the full duration of the Approved Program, with a 100% tuition fee waiver and a $29,000 annual living stipend. UQ also states it emails applicants to confirm application receipt, and if confirmation is not received within 2 working days, applicants should contact the Scholarships & Prizes Office.

• Are or will be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at UQ
• Hold one of the following Australian visas: Temporary Protection Visa (subclass 785), Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (subclass 790), Temporary Humanitarian Concern Visa (subclass 786), Temporary Humanitarian Stay Visa (subclass 449)
• Or hold any other similar visa from time to time that the Australian government might enact for people from refugee or asylum seeker backgrounds
• Or hold Bridging Visa E (subclass 050) or Bridging Visa A (subclass 010) if you have applied for any of the above-mentioned visas
• Have not received the Scholarship previously for the same level of study
• Do not hold another similar scholarship
• Can demonstrate financial hardship by providing documentary evidence

1. Apply using the online application form.
2. Submit the required documents: a copy of your current visa (or, if currently on Bridging Visa A or E after applying for a Protection visa, provide a copy of the acknowledgement letter from Immigration), your resume/CV, your UQ offer letter or confirmation of application for the chosen program of study, and evidence of your and/or your family's financial circumstances.
3. Include a personal statement outlining your personal and/or family circumstances and your personal qualities (and you may include other information such as achievements or aspirations).
4. If applicable, include evidence of your prior study/qualifications and references from employers, community organisations, academics, or any other relevant group.
5. After submitting, expect an email confirming application receipt; if a confirmation email is not received within 2 working days, contact [email protected].

• Evidence of your and/or your family's financial circumstances, such as: Centrelink Statement; employment payslips for the past two months (past 8 weekly payslips or past 4 fortnightly); Australian Taxation Office Notice of Assessment for the most recent financial year; any other type of relevant evidence
• Personal statement outlining your personal and/or family circumstances and your personal qualities (and you may include other information such as achievements or aspirations)
• Evidence of your prior study/qualifications (if applicable)
• References from employers, community organisations, academics or any other relevant group (if included in your application)
