University of Sydney Gabrielle Ewington Equity Scholarship in Southeast Asian Studies

The Gabrielle Ewington Equity Scholarship in Southeast Asian Studies is an undergraduate scholarship established from a donation by Gabrielle Ewington to support students whose studies relate to Southeast Asia. The scholarship is offered by the University of Sydney.

The scholarship is aimed at applicants with an unconditional offer of admission or currently enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree (including honours) within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. Applicants must be planning to enrol or be currently enrolled in studies focusing on Southeast Asian studies, defined as any unit with substantial content relating to Southeast Asia in general, or specific countries listed in the terms.

Selection is based on academic merit, evidence addressing Clause 3.b, and a personal statement covering the reason for studying Southeast Asian Studies, how the units of study focus on Southeast Asian Studies, and how the scholarship will support the applicant’s studies (including demonstrating Clause 3.b where applicable). Preference is given to applicants who can demonstrate one or more listed circumstances.

For ongoing eligibility, recipients must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 each semester, and exchange students need a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive the next payment. The scholarship runs for up to a maximum of four years full-time, or up to a maximum of eight years if approved for part-time, and deferral and/or suspension requires approval by the Head of School, School of Languages and Cultures. The scholarship can be terminated under the conditions listed in the terms.

• Must have an unconditional offer of admission or be currently enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree (including honours) within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney.
• An applicant may receive the scholarship if enrolled part-time if approved by the Head of School, School of Languages and Cultures.
• Must be planning to enrol or be currently enrolled in studies focusing on Southeast Asian studies.
• Southeast Asian studies are defined as any unit with substantial content relating to Southeast Asia in general, or substantial content relating to Brunei, Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Timor Leste, Thailand, or Vietnam.
• To continue receipt, must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 each semester.
• Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of the scholarship must have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive the next payment.

• Full-time enrolled recipients: $8,500 per annum for up to a maximum of four years.
• Part-time enrolled recipients approved to hold the scholarship: $4,250 per annum for up to a maximum of eight years.
• Annual value is paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.
