University of Sydney Honours Scholarship in Photonics

The University of Sydney Honours Scholarship in Photonics is an undergraduate scholarship valued at $5,000 p.a. It supports an undergraduate student to undertake honours research at the School of Physics.

The scholarship is for domestic or international students with an unconditional offer of admission or who are currently enrolled full-time or part-time in Physics Honours within the School of Physics at the University of Sydney. Applicants must have achieved a Distinction average, or equivalent, during undergraduate studies.

Selection is based on academic merit and a brief statement outlining interests, particularly in the context of designing, fabricating, and experimentally characterizing photonic devices. Applicants may be shortlisted for an interview. The scholarship is awarded by the supervisor of the Honours project, Alessandro Tuniz, and the Head of School of the School of Physics, or nominated delegates.

The scholarship is tenable for one year and is valued at $5,000 per annum. Payment is made in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester. Ongoing eligibility requires a Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 80 or above each semester. Recipients on exchange must have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive the next payment. The scholarship terminates if conditions such as withdrawal, unsatisfactory performance, serious misconduct, or failing to resume study apply.
