University of Sydney Research Scholarship in Engineering Processable - Tough Hydrogels

The University of Sydney Research Scholarship in Engineering Processable - Tough Hydrogels is a postgraduate research scholarship established by the Bioengineering Laboratory in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Sydney. It aims to support a PhD student undertaking research in designing a tough and versatile hydrogel with self-healing properties. The scholarship is partially funded by an Australian Research Council (ARC) grant and partially funded by the Faculty of Engineering.

The scholarship is for applicants seeking full-time PhD study at the Faculty of Engineering, with an unconditional offer of admission. The research focus is designing a tough and versatile hydrogel with self-healing properties. Applicants must apply for a Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend Scholarship (domestic or international) alongside this scholarship.

Selection is based on academic merit, area of study and/or research proposal, curriculum vitae (including previous research experience and, if applicable, experience in additive manufacturing and biomaterial processing), feedback from two academic referees, and a personal statement covering independent and collaborative work across disciplines and industry, communication skills in written and spoken English, and a proven record of exceptional academic and extracurricular performance. Preference is given to applicants with experience in additive manufacturing and biomaterial processing, and shortlisted applicants may be invited to an interview.

• Must have an unconditional offer of admission to study a full-time PhD at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney.
• Must be willing to conduct research in designing a tough and versatile hydrogel with self-healing properties.
• Must hold an Honours degree (First Class or Second Class Upper) or equivalent in polymer engineering and chemistry or a relevant discipline.
• Must apply for the Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend Scholarships.

• Annual stipend allowance equivalent to the University of Sydney’s Research Training Program (RTP) stipend rate (indexed on 1 January each year) for up to three (subject to satisfactory academic performance).
• Stipend allowance is partially funded by an ARC grant and partially funded by the Faculty of Engineering.
• Academic course fees provided for a successful international applicant for up to twelve research periods (subject to satisfactory academic performance).
• Subject to funding availability, an extension of the stipend allowance for up to six months may be possible.
• Subject to funding availability, an extension of the academic course fees for up to two research periods may be possible.
