University of Technology Sydney UTS President’s Scholarship for International Research Students

The UTS President's scholarship (UTSP) is provided by the University of Technology Sydney to international Higher Degree Research students who demonstrate exceptional research potential. UTS President's scholarships are provided to assist with students' general living costs. The UTSP scholarship is not transferable to another institution.

UTSP is aimed at overseas students who are commencing full-time enrolment in a Higher Degree by Research at UTS. The scholarship applies only when the proposed study is in a subject area identified by the University as one of its areas of research concentration, and it is for students whose postgraduate research program enrolment has been accepted by the University.

UTSP is connected to other scholarship considerations. Applicants for the International Research Training Program Scholarship (IRTP) are automatically also considered for this scholarship. There is no separate application form for IRTP, IRS, and UTSP for prospective students; completing one form means applicants are considered for all associated scholarships. Incomplete and late applications are not considered.

Support lasts up to 3.5 years for PhD and up to 2 years for MRes. UTSP provides a living allowance to assist with general living costs. After selection, eligibility must continue to meet conditions related to OSHC, enrolment, study area, and not receiving an equivalent award or salary exceeding the stated threshold.

• Be an overseas student as defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003 (Cth).
• Purchase and maintain a standard OSHC policy approved by the Commonwealth government Department of Health and Ageing.
• Be commencing full-time enrolment in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at UTS.
• Must not have enrolment into a postgraduate research program that has not been accepted by the University.
• Undertake study in a subject area identified by the University as one of its areas of research concentration.
• Not have completed a degree at the same or higher level as the proposed candidature.
• Not previously have held an Australian Government-funded postgraduate research scholarship, unless it was terminated within six months of the scholarship payments commencing.
• Not be receiving an equivalent award, scholarship (excluding an IPRS) or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the UTSP stipend rate to undertake the HDR.
• Income earned from sources unrelated to the course of study is not subject to the 75% rule.
• Submit a completed application, including all required supporting documentation, by the relevant application deadline.
• Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.

• Living Allowance: $39,000 per annum (tax-free).

1. Complete the application form for prospective students associated with IRTP, IRS, and UTSP (there is no separate Application Form for IRTP, IRS, and UTSP).
2. Ensure the completed application includes all required supporting documentation.
3. Submit the completed application by the relevant application deadline; incomplete and late applications will not be considered.
4. Applicants for IRTP are automatically also considered for UTSP when completing the associated application form.
