Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarships Scheme

The Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarships Scheme (VCIS) is a scholarship offered on commencement of a coursework degree. University of Sydney states it is only awarded once during the first year of commencement and is not renewable for following years. University of Sydney states the scholarship is aimed at supporting high-achieving international students to pursue coursework studies.

University of Sydney states the VCIS is for international students who have applied for, but not yet commenced, a bachelor’s degree or a coursework master’s degree that is a CRICOS-registered award program usually delivered onshore at the University of Sydney. University of Sydney also states commencing a second degree is eligible if the applicant has not previously held the VCIS.

University of Sydney states selection is based on academic merit as assessed from the student’s application for admission to the relevant undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree. University of Sydney states the scholarship is made on the nomination of a selection committee consisting of two nominees of the Executive Director, Sydney Future Students, and one nominee of the Admissions Office.

University of Sydney states the scholarship is offered subject to the availability of funds and that five scholarship amounts are available based on ranking against selection criteria. University of Sydney states recipients must complete Acceptance of the Unconditional Offer by the relevant deadline associated with their scholarship offer round and remain enrolled after census date. University of Sydney states scholarship payment is made on or after the relevant census date, deferral or suspension is not permitted except in exceptional circumstances, and ongoing eligibility requirements may apply for recipients receiving the scholarship in two instalments.

• receive an unconditional offer of admission by the relevant close date
• have applied for but not yet commenced an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree at the University of Sydney
• commencing a second degree at the University of Sydney is eligible provided the applicant has not previously held the Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarships
• recipients of scholarships provided by the Australian Government are not eligible
• open to all commencing international students enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework full degree

• Up to $60,000 total scholarship value
• $60,000 payable for one year in two equal instalments per semester
• $40,000 payable for one year in two equal instalments per semester
• $20,000 payable for one semester
• $10,000 payable for one semester
• $5,000 payable for one semester
• Payment made on or after the relevant census date
• Availability of some amounts may be limited to specified cohorts
• No other amount is payable

1. No application is required; University of Sydney states that all eligible students who have secured an unconditional offer of admission by the relevant closing dates will be automatically considered.
2. Complete the Acceptance of your Unconditional Offer by the relevant deadline associated with your scholarship offer round.
