Vonwiller Foundation Postgraduate Research International Scholarships for PhD Students at the University of Sydney

The Vonwiller Foundation Postgraduate Research Scholarship is a postgraduate research scholarship established to support a full-time PhD within Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney. The scholarship supports research into the area of Detection and Treatment to Prevent the Progression of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).

The scholarship is aimed at commencing PhD students within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney, with research willing to focus on Detection and Treatment to Prevent the Progression of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). The scholarship also requires at least a three-year bachelor’s degree in specified related fields.

Selection is based on academic merit and the area of study and/or research proposal. The successful applicant(s) are awarded the scholarship on the nomination of the relevant research supervisor(s), or their nominated delegate(s).

The scholarship provides a stipend allowance equivalent to the University of Sydney Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend rate for up to 3 years, subject to satisfactory academic performance, with a possible extension of 6 months. Maintenance depends on attending and passing the annual progress evaluation and remaining enrolled in the PhD. The scholarship includes leave conditions and has rules on progression, suspension, deferral, overseas research, changes in enrolment, and termination.

• Have an unconditional offer of admission to study full-time in a PhD within Faculty of Engineering at the University of SydneyBe willing to conduct research in the area of Detection and Treatment to Prevent the Progression of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)Hold at least a three-year bachelor's degree in one of the related fields: Medical Informatics; Computer Science; Machine Learning / Deep Learning / AI; Data Science; Bioinformatics; Applied machine learning or similar
• The scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having the unconditional offer of admission to study full-time in a PhD within Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney
• For progression: maintain the scholarship by attending and passing the annual progress evaluation, including all the required candidature milestones, and remaining enrolled in their PhD
• Scholarship recipients commencing in Australia may not normally conduct research overseas within the first six months of award
• Scholarship recipients must remain enrolled full-time at the University and receive approval to count time away when conducting research outside Australia
• The scholarship cannot be transferred to another area of research or have the lead supervisor changed
• Recipients cannot suspend their award within their first six months of study, unless a legislative provision applies
• Recipients must notify HDRAC and their supervisor promptly of planned changes to enrolment, including attendance pattern, suspension, leave of absence, withdrawal, course transfer, and candidature upgrade or downgrade
• Termination occurs if the recipient resigns or withdraws from the research degree, submits the thesis or the award ends, ceases to be a full-time student without prior approval for part-time, completes maximum candidature, receives an alternative primary stipend scholarship (where this scholarship terminates in favour of the alternative if higher value), does not resume study at the end of approved leave, or ceases to meet eligibility requirements
