Woolley Memorial Postgraduate Research Scholarship - University of Sydney

The Woolley Memorial Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Classics is a postgraduate research scholarship. It provides financial support to students undertaking research in Classics and Ancient History, including language, literature history, and cultures from Ancient Greece and Rome, covering the period from eighth century BC to eighth century AD.

The scholarship is for students undertaking a full-time PhD in Classics and Ancient History in the School of Humanities. The scholarship requires research in the Classics, specifically the study areas described in the scholarship criteria, covering Ancient Greece and Rome from the eighth century BC to the eighth century AD.

Selection is based on academic merit, area of study and/or research proposal, curriculum vitae, and a personal statement describing which areas of Classics the applicant plans to undertake or is currently undertaking. A selection committee consisting of the Chair of Classics and Ancient History (or nominated delegate) and at least two other academic staff members from Classics and Ancient History awards the scholarship.

The scholarship provides a stipend allowance equivalent to the University of Sydney RTP Stipend rate for up to 3.5 years, subject to satisfactory academic performance, and no extension is possible. Progression requires attending and passing the annual progress evaluation. Recreation leave and sick leave arrangements are included, and rules apply to research overseas, suspension, enrolment changes, and termination.

• Be enrolled, intending to apply, applied for admission, have a conditional or unconditional offer of admission to study full-time in a PhD in Classics and Ancient History, School of Humanities.Conduct research in the Classics including language, literature history and cultures from ancient Greece and Rome from the eighth century BC to the eighth century AD.The scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled to study full-time in a PhD in Classics and Ancient History, School of Humanities, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney.

• Stipend allowance equivalent to the University of Sydney Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend rate (indexed on 1 January each year) for up to 3.5 years, subject to satisfactory academic performance.
