Algonquin College’s Bachelor of Child and Youth Care is an Ontario College Advanced Diploma that prepares students to support vulnerable children, youth, and families with complex needs. Students learn prevention and intervention strategies, assess strengths and needs of young people and families, and develop interventions to meet those needs. The program includes relational practice, lifespace engagement, and anti-oppressive practice in classes and field placements.
The program is delivered as a three-year full-time advanced diploma with community-based service learning projects and scheduled field placement/work placement. By the end, students complete practical experience in the field of child and youth care in two different work environments, totaling 1000 hours. Students also take two therapeutic outdoor activity courses, including a two-day overnight camping trip with fellow classmates and faculty.
