The Environmental & Earth Sciences Gateway is a foundational first year that helps students apply environmental and earth sciences knowledge through problem-based and inquiry learning. Students work toward a broad understanding of scientific methods, a grounding in environmental and earth sciences, and intellectual skills for careers in science and elsewhere.
Students spend one year in the Gateway before moving into a program/major. The Gateway includes Level I science courses completed based on admission requirements for Level II program options. At the end of first year, students rank programs of interest, and admission to programs beginning in second year is based on courses taken and a first-year minimum average. Students can also gain experience through Applied Science Placement Courses, Research Practicum Courses, and Science Internships, and can participate in Cooperative Education.
Admission to the programs that begins in second year is based on courses taken and a first-year minimum average.
