Algoma University Canada Chancellor's Award: $5,000 Renewable

Algoma University offers entrance scholarships for international students. The Chancellor’s Award is valued at $5,000 and is for international secondary school graduates entering their first year of an undergraduate degree at Algoma University.

The Chancellor’s Award is for students who are new international students entering Algoma University for the first time and who are enrolled full-time (15 credits per term over Fall/Winter) in the same academic year. It applies to first-year undergraduate degree study and requires students to meet stated admission English language requirements and minimum academic performance requirements.

Selection is based on meeting the listed eligibility requirements, including academic performance, enrollment status (full-time with the specified credit load across Fall/Winter), and admission English language requirements. Students must also provide a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) before award disbursement, with failure to provide it on time resulting in revocation of the award for that term.

The Chancellor’s Award is described as renewable for up to three additional academic years, provided the student maintains the renewal criteria. Renewal depends on maintaining minimum Fall/Winter credit enrollment and achieving a minimum average of 80% across courses taken in previous Fall/Winter semesters. The award is reduced proportionately if courses are fast-tracked over the summer or if a student starts in a term other than Fall; withdrawing from a course or having a course cancelled still requires the necessary credit load, and failing renewal requirements results in reduction or loss for that year and loss of eligibility for future renewals.

• Must be a new international student entering Algoma University for the first time.Must be enrolled full-time (15 credits per term over Fall/Winter) in the same academic year.Must meet minimum academic performance requirements: A+ average (or country equivalent) on previous academic record.For international students studying in Ontario: 90-100% on top 6 Grade 12 U/M courses presented for admissions.For IB students: diploma points of 40-45.Must meet minimum admission English language requirements: Cambridge Assessment of English – 185 overall; Duolingo Test of English (DTE) – 125; IELTS – Overall 7.0, no band less than 6; Pearson Test of English (Academic) – 65; TOEFL – 560 (85 internet-based).English language proficiency test is not required if the student has achieved a C grade or higher in O-Level English.Students who do not meet the minimum English language requirement for this award may still be considered for the President’s Award, subject to meeting other academic criteria.Must provide a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) before award disbursement; failure to provide a SIN on time results in revocation of the award for that term.Renewal eligibility (for recipients): First-year students must be enrolled in at least 30 credits across Fall and Winter terms.Renewal eligibility (for recipients): Second year and beyond must be enrolled in at least 24 credits across Fall and Winter terms.Renewal eligibility (for recipients): Must achieve a minimum average of 80% of the courses taken in previous Fall and Winter semesters.Fast-tracking rule: Students who fast-track their program by taking courses over the summer or start in a term other than Fall will not receive the award for summer courses.Fast-tracking rule: Students who do not meet the minimum annual Fall/Winter credit requirements will have the overall value of the award reduced proportionately.Credit-load rule: Students who withdraw from a course or whose course is cancelled are still required to maintain the necessary credit load.Academic standing: Students must be in good academic standing.Consequence of not meeting renewal requirements in any academic year: reduction or loss of the award for that year; loss of eligibility for future renewals.Transition rule: Transitioning to permanent residency does not affect eligibility for renewal; students with a change in residency are advised to contact the Financial Aid Office.
