Entrance Scholarships at Cape Breton University

Cape Breton University offers entrance scholarships to students entering CBU. Through the contributions of donors, $2.6 million in scholarships and bursaries are offered to students entering CBU each year. Students entering direct from high school are considered for entrance scholarships based on their academic grades.

Entrance scholarships are for Canadian and international students who wish to be considered for entrance scholarships. All entering students who wish to be considered must submit, in addition to an admission application, an official transcript; students interested in bursaries must also submit a financial need application. Former Nova Scotia Youth in Care students may apply for a 100% waiver of participating students’ tuition and compulsory fees after being accepted by CBU.

For high school students, eligibility includes having no failures in Grade 11 courses. The average is based on the five AC & AD courses required for the program’s admission, using final Grade 11 grades to determine the average. For international students entering directly from high school, Cape Breton University determines the average.

ESL conditional offers must attend a CBU English language partner school to have the award honoured. Accepted students can apply for entrance scholarships until March 1st. Major entrance scholarships listed include Chancellor’s, President’s, Deans’, Fitzgerald, Schwartz, and W.M. Reid, with total and yearly amounts shown for each.

Reid ($11,500 total; $4K & $2.5K yearly)
• Entrance scholarships: a range of scholarships from $500 per year to $5,000 per year may be offered after a review of applicants
• Former Nova Scotia Youth in Care students: 100% waiver of participating students’ tuition and compulsory fees

2. To be considered for entrance scholarships, submit the following in addition to an admission application: official transcript.
3. If you are interested in bursaries, submit a financial need application as well.
4. Accepted students can apply for entrance scholarships until March 1st.
