Graduate International Scholarship at University of British Columbia

The University of British Columbia (UBC) Graduate School International Tuition Award assists international graduate students with their tuition fees. It is for students registered full-time in research-oriented master’s and doctoral programs at the UBC Vancouver campus.

The award is for international students assessed international tuition fees and registered full-time in one of the included graduate programs. Students must use the Graduate Degree Programs listing under the “Tuition & Financial Support” header to check included programs and award amounts per program.

Eligible students do not need to apply; UBC states that all international students who are eligible are automatically considered. Awards are assigned on Workday, and students verify they meet eligibility requirements by accepting the scholarship online via Workday.

UBC states the scholarship is paid in three equal instalments: one at the beginning of each term. Students must remain eligible; students are no longer eligible once they are assessed domestic tuition fees, and the award is pro-rated to the end of the last term for which they were assessed international tuition fees.

• Citizenship: InternationalTuition assessment: Students must be assessed international tuition fees (students can review assessments via Workday).Enrolment status: Students must be registered full-time in one of the included graduate programs.Program level: Masters and Doctoral.Campus: UBC - Vancouver campus.Program type: research-oriented master’s and doctoral programs.External funding exclusion: Students who receive external funding for tuition equal to or higher than the value of the International Tuition Award are not eligible.External funding reduction: Students who receive external funding for tuition lower than the value of the International Tuition Award will have the International Tuition Award reduced by the amount of the external tuition funding.Indigenous students: As of September 2022, Indigenous students receiving Band funding are eligible to receive tuition awards.Staff tuition waiver: Students who receive the staff tuition waiver are not eligible to receive the International Tuition Award.Landed immigrant / permanent resident status: Students become no longer eligible once they are assessed domestic tuition fees; the award is pro-rated to the end of the last term for which they were assessed international tuition fees.

1. Students do not need to apply; all eligible international students are automatically considered for the scholarship.
2. New students must register for courses in the upcoming term so the system permits the award to be assigned to their Workday account.
3. UBC assigns awards on Workday; once assigned, students can view the award in Workday.
4. Students must verify they meet the eligibility requirements by accepting the scholarship online via Workday.
5. If a student has not been assigned the award by the start of the term and believes they are eligible, they should contact the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (emails must include the student number).

• Record of Landing: Provide a copy to the Registrar's Office if a student becomes a Landed Immigrant while enrolled at UBC.
