Université de Montréal (UdeM) Canada Exemption Scholarship for International Students

Université de Montréal (UdeM) provides the “UdeM exemption scholarship program” to support international candidates in university studies through an exemption from tuition fees normally charged to international students. UdeM links the program to international students’ contribution to its educational mission through cultural diversity within the Université de Montréal community.

The UdeM exemption scholarship is intended for international students, except French and French-speaking Belgian students. Eligibility includes having received an offer of admission to a study program at UdeM during the admission period referenced by UdeM, not being enrolled in an independent study program or short undergraduate program as of the Winter session referenced by UdeM, having valid study authorizations (CAQ and study permit) for all sessions of the study program, and being continuously enrolled full time for the entire study program (unless absence is approved).

UdeM states that candidates are evaluated to determine eligibility and the amount of the exemption scholarship. For undergraduate studies, UdeM states that academic record excellence is the only evaluation criterion, assessed using transcripts provided during the admission application. UdeM also states that if the file does not qualify for level A or B, no scholarship amount applies.

UdeM states that once received, the scholarship amount is deducted from tuition fees. UdeM also states that current students maintain acquired rights, and that if any eligibility condition is not met, the UdeM exemption scholarship may be withdrawn. After accepting an offer of admission, UdeM will email a reply indicating eligibility and the amount awarded.

• Applicant is an international student (except French and French-speaking Belgian students).Applicant must have received an offer of admission to a study program at UdeM during the admission period referenced by UdeM.Applicant must not be enrolled in an independent study program or short undergraduate program as of the Winter session referenced by UdeM (examples given: certificate, major, minor, short program, or preparatory year program for university studies).Applicant must have valid study authorizations (CAQ and study permit) for all sessions of their study program.Applicant must be continuously enrolled full time (unless absence is approved) for their entire study program.Applicant must not benefit from another form of tuition fee exemption.If any of the above conditions is not met, the UdeM exemption scholarship may be withdrawn.

• Undergraduate degree programs (bachelor’s): scholarship amount deducted from tuition fees; assessment determines level A or B amount based on transcripts provided during the admission application.Undergraduate level A (full time equivalent to 15 credits): amount per session: CAD 481.20; amount per year (2 sessions) for full time equivalent to 30 credits: CAD 7 218.00.Undergraduate level A (full time equivalent to 15 credits): amount per session: CAD 481.20; amount per year (2 sessions) for full time equivalent to 30 credits: CAD 7 218.00.Undergraduate level B (full time equivalent to 15 credits): amount per session: CAD 229.32; amount per year (2 sessions) for full time equivalent to 30 credits: CAD 3 439.80.Graduate programs – Master’s (partial exemption from additional tuition fees): scholarship amount deducted from tuition fees.Master’s research (full time equivalent to 15 credits): amount per session: CAD 353.69; amount per year (3 sessions) for full time equivalent to 45 credits: CAD 5 305.35.Master’s research (full time equivalent to 15 credits): amount per session: CAD 353.69; amount per year (3 sessions) for full time equivalent to 45 credits: CAD 5 305.35.Master’s non-research (full time equivalent to 15 credits): amount per session: CAD 251.88; amount per year (3 sessions) for full time equivalent to 45 credits: CAD 3 778.20.Master’s writing and correction sessions: same tuition fees as those charged to Québec students will be applied.Graduate programs – PhD (complete waiver of the additional tuition fees normally charged to international students): scholarship amount deducted from the tuition fees, allowing the same tuition fees as Québec graduate studies students.PhD (full time equivalent to 15 credits): amount per session: CAD 534.84; amount per year (3 sessions) for full time equivalent to 45 credits: CAD 8 022.60.

1. 1. Apply for admission. Before completing the application form, make sure you respect the application deadlines and check the admissions requirements for the study programs of interest.
2. 2. Submit your application and follow up on your file. After submitting, consult your application and receive your admission notice in your Centre étudiant.
3. 3. No separate application for the UdeM Exemption Scholarship is required. Candidates are evaluated to determine eligibility and the amount of the exemption scholarship.
4. 4. After accepting your offer of admission, receive an email reply indicating eligibility and, if eligible, the amount awarded. Print and keep the document for future reference.
