Beijing Normal University Chinese Government Scholarship

Beijing Normal University states that the University Program is designed to finance the study of talented international students in China that are directly recommended by designated Chinese universities. Under this Type B program, the scholarship categories include undergraduate students and graduate students. Support duration matches the length of the major study determined at admission, and instruction language is Chinese or English.

Applicants are instructed to apply during the period stated by Beijing Normal University, and the application is completed online through the “BNU International Student Application System.” To apply through the Chinese University Program as a new student, applicants must choose Type B and use Beijing Normal University’s agency number 10027.

Beijing Normal University states it will review application documents and decide nominated candidates. Nominated candidates receive Chinese Government Scholarships to study in China with approval of the China Scholarship Council. The China Scholarship Council reserves the right to decide the host university for recipients with multiple offers, and each recipient is granted no more than one scholarship. Scholarship recipients must not change their host university, field of study, or duration of study after arriving in China, must register before the registration deadline, and must pass a physical examination after registration; otherwise admission and scholarship qualification are withdrawn. Beijing Normal University also states that annual evaluation by China Scholarship Council is required, and students who pass will be qualified for scholarship in the next year.

• Chinese-taught degree applicants must submit an HSK certificate according to the admission requirements of their program.
• The university does not provide preparatory Chinese language courses for applicants of Chinese-taught degree programs.

• For undergraduate programs: be a high school graduate and no more than 25 when applying.
• For master’s programs: be a bachelor's degree holder and no more than 35 when applying.
• For doctoral programs: be a master's degree holder and no more than 40 when applying.
• Applicants must submit application documents that meet the requirements of both the Beijing Normal University admissions brochure and the Chinese Government Scholarship Application Documents List.
• If an applicant has not obtained the Pre-admission Letter issued by BNU when filling in the Chinese Government Scholarship Application System, they may temporarily complete the application without submitting this document, but must submit it to the Chinese Government Scholarship Application System as soon as possible after obtaining it.

1. Follow the instructions in BNU admission information for international students and prepare the application documents.
2. Complete an online application by logging on to the “BNU International Student Application System” (https://international.bnu.edu.cn/).
3. Read the Instructions for Chinese Government Scholarship Information System; register on the China Scholarship Council website (http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina or http://www.campuschina.org); complete, print, and sign the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship.
4. To apply through the Chinese University Program as a new student, choose Type B and use the agency number for Beijing Normal University: 10027.
5. Submit the required paper application documents to Beijing Normal University before the deadline.
6. If the application form is modified, re-submission of the form is required.

• Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (filled in online).
• A clear scanned copy of the information page of the ordinary passport.
• If the validity period of the currently held passport is less than 12 months (calculated from the expected start date of study), renew the passport and use it to complete the scholarship application; if an applicant cannot apply for a passport due to objective reasons, submit valid documentation or documentary evidence approved by the application receiving agency that carries the applicant’s full English name, gender, nationality, and date of birth.
• Diploma and certificate of highest education (notarized photocopy).
• If the applicant is a current university student: certificate of expected graduation or student status issued by the university.
• Academic records, with notarized translations in Chinese or English if originals are in languages other than Chinese or English.
• Certificate of language proficiency: for Chinese-taught programs, a valid HSK score report meeting the program’s language ability requirements; for programs taught in other languages, a language certificate required by the designated university such as IELTS or TOEFL.
• CSCA score report: applicants seeking to pursue a bachelor’s degree must register for and take the CSCA before the application deadline and submit a valid CSCA Report.
• Language qualification certificates for relevant programs taught in Chinese or other languages, as required by the designated university (such as IELTS or TOEFL).
• A study or research plan written in Chinese or in English with the stated minimum length depending on program level (no less than 200 words/characters for undergraduates; no less than 500 words/characters for scholars; no less than 1000 words/characters for postgraduates).
• Recommendation letters: two recommendation letters for postgraduate programs or academic education as a senior scholar (from professors or associate professors); one recommendation letter from a teacher, head teacher, or school leader of the high school for undergraduate programs; referee signature required.
• For arts or design programs: the applicant’s own works (such as videos and paintings).
• If under the age of 18: legal documents of the legal guardian(s) in China.
• If studying in China for more than six months: a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form (original document printed by Chinese quarantine authorities must be filled in in English and kept by the applicant); medical examinations must cover all items listed; incomplete records or those without required physician signature, hospital official stamp, or sealed photograph are invalid.
• A valid Certificate of Non-Criminal Record (or Police Clearance Certificate) issued by the local public security (such as the police station), usually issued within six months prior to submission date.
• Pre-admission Letter issued by BNU: can be omitted during initial completion if not yet obtained, but must be submitted to the Chinese Government Scholarship Application System after it is obtained.
