Central South University Scholarship has two coverage options: a full scholarship that covers tuition, on-campus accommodation, and a monthly stipend, and a partial scholarship that covers tuition. The scholarship support is tied to admission, and the final financial support depends on the admission notice received.

It is aimed at international applicants to master’s and doctorate programmes at Central South University. Applicants apply to the specific science and engineering or arts, social science, and medical programmes they are applying for, and some programmes may have additional specified application requirements that must be satisfied.

Selection includes an online application followed by an initial review of identity, language ability, and physical and mental conditions. After passing the initial review, applicants undergo an academic review by relevant schools to examine academic background, scientific research ability, or innovation potential. Final admission results are released via the admission email, and scholarship support is subject to the admission notice.

Scholarship students must complete an annual review based on academic and daily performance during the previous academic period; scholarship continues after passing the review and is suspended/terminated if the review is not passed. International students are also required to purchase medical insurance while studying in China, and uninsured students cannot register.

• For English-taught programmes: minimum IELTS score of 6 or TOEFL score of 85.
• Language competence proof is exempt if the applicant’s first language or the official language of the applicant’s country is Chinese or English.
• Language competence proof is exempt if the applicant has taken a degree programme whose teaching language is Chinese or English.
• Applicants must have a strong academic background and innovative research capabilities.
• Applicants must meet additional admission requirements set by some programmes and be qualified before applying.
• An applicant applying for a bachelor’s degree as a foreign student must hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than 4 years, and within the last 4 years there must be a record of living abroad for more than 2 years; proof of renunciation of Chinese nationality is required. (This applies to applicants whose one parent or both are Chinese citizens settling abroad.)

1. Complete an online application by logging in to the School of International Education system for Central South University, filling in the application form, and submitting it.
2. After an initial review of identity, language ability, and physical and mental conditions: if the initial review is passed, pay the application fee of CNY 500 on the unified payment platform of Central South University according to the email instructions (WeChat, Alipay, and UnionPay are available). Payment must be completed within two weeks; otherwise, the application cannot continue. If the initial review is not passed, no application fee payment is needed.
3. Undergo an academic review by relevant schools that examines academic background, scientific research ability, or innovation potential.
4. Receive the final admission result via the admission email; check the application status in the CSU International Student Service System and monitor the application system inbox and email.

• Highest graduation certificate; if currently a student, a pre-graduation certificate issued by the school is required.
• Stamped transcript of the highest diploma.
• HSK transcript for Chinese-taught programmes and IELTS/TOEFL for English-taught programmes, or other documents to prove linguistic competence.
• Non-criminal record in Chinese/English with an official stamp.
• Physical examination record.
• Self-introduction video uploaded within one minute (MP4 format, less than 40MB); if the applicant has an HSK certificate, the video must be recorded in Chinese.
• Statement of not receiving any scholarships or forms of funding.
• Two different recommendation letters from professors/associate professors, including detailed contacts.
• Study plan of no less than 1000 words; for doctoral applicants, the proposal must be signed by the applicant’s supervisor at Central South University.
