China Agriculture University Chinese Government Scholarship

China Agricultural University offers admission for the Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) for the “High Level Postgraduate Program”. The application and review process includes reporting passed interview results to the Chinese Government Scholarships Council (CSC) for approval.

The scholarship is for Non-Chinese citizens who hold a valid ordinary passport and apply for Master’s or Doctoral programs at China Agricultural University. Applicants must meet the university admission requirements, including academic ability and relevant criteria, and must also meet language requirements depending on whether the instruction language is Chinese-taught or English-taught.

CAU reviews application materials and selects applicants for further examinations and interviews requested by colleges or departments. Applicants who pass the interview are reported to CSC for approval. CAU then issues an Admission Notice and a Visa Application Form (JW201) to successful applicants.

Support duration is linked to the degree level: Master’s students receive 2/3 academic years and Doctoral students receive 3/4 academic years. Scholarship students are subject to annual evaluation organized by the host university; passing evaluation provides an opportunity for the next year’s scholarship. Scholarship recipients must not change host university, major, field of study, or duration of study unless they give up the scholarship.

• Physically and mentally healthy, meeting the physical examination requirements for Chinese Visa or Residence Permit applicants in China and the physical examination requirements of the major to study in China Agricultural University to ensure normal study and life in China
• No violation of disciplines; no records of public security punishment or of criminal conduct
• Be friendly to China and behave well; comply with Chinese laws and university regulations; respect Chinese customs and manners
• Master’s applicants: hold a qualification equivalent (or above) to a Bachelors degree from a Chinese university and be under the age of 35
• Doctoral applicants: hold a qualification equivalent (or above) to a Masters degree from a Chinese university and be under the age of 40
• English-taught Master’s or Doctoral programs: TOEFL (iBT) at least 90 or IELTS at least 6.0
• Chinese-taught Master’s or Doctoral programs: HSK Level 4
• Meet the admission requirements of the applied universities in terms of academic ability and other relevant criteria
• Applicants must have acquired the English proficiency or Chinese proficiency based on the instruction language of the applied program

1. Visit the China Agricultural University application system (http://apply.cau.edu.cn/) to log in, fill in personal information, choose the major, and submit required materials. Pay the registration fee of RMB 400 yuan (not refundable).
2. Complete the online application procedure at the CGS Information Management System for International Students by visiting the CSC application system (http://www.campuschina.org) and clicking “Application Online” to log in.
3. In the CSC system, choose TYPE B and agency number 10019. In the initial step, there is no need to submit the Pre-admission notice.
4. Download and submit the scanning copy of the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship with your signature to the China Agricultural University application system (http://apply.cau.edu.cn).
5. CAU reviews application materials and issues a Pre-admission to applicants who pass the review by College.
6. Applicants upload the Pre-admission into the CSC system.
7. CAU submits the recommended list to CSC. Track application status on the CAU system and email after submission.

• Expectation Certificate of Graduation (for applicants who will graduate; must be submitted after admission when registering in CAU; otherwise admission is canceled)
• Recommendation letters from two associate professors or scholars with higher academic titles (no specified format; all letters must be signed by the referee)
• Study/Work experience (updated to the application date)
• Pre-admission notice (issued by the college after passing the evaluation of applicant’s academic background by online interview)
• A study or research plan written in Chinese or in English (no less than 1000 words)
• Language qualification certificates (HSK Level 4 for Chinese-taught; IELTS/TOEFL or English-taught program study documents for English-taught, per listed requirements)
• Form of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (available at http://www.csc.edu.cn/uploads/forms/foreinphy.pdf)
• Visa information (only required for students in China)
• No criminal report (issued by the public security department)
• Published academic papers, patents, or other academic achievements (originals or copies)
• All documents should be written in Chinese or English
