Nanjing University China Government Scholarship (CSC Type B)

Chinese Government Scholarship is set up by the Chinese government to facilitate students and scholars from all over the world to conduct their study and research at Chinese universities, with the stated aim of increasing mutual understanding and friendship and developing communication and cooperation in education, technology, culture, and economics. Nanjing University hosts the program for international students at NJU.

The program is for master’s and doctoral students. Eligibility and required language scores depend on program teaching mode: Chinese-taught programs require HSK for admission and graduation, while English-taught programs require IELTS/TOEFL/Duolingo English Test for admission and HSK for graduation. Applicants who do not meet the listed requirements will not be accepted.

Selection follows an NJU process with an initial review after online submission and feedback given within a stated number of workdays. Applications passing the initial review are transferred to relevant schools/departments for further assessment, with results sent via system message and email. Those who pass receive a pre-admission letter from Nanjing University, followed by an application on the CSC website.

Support lasts for the scholarship duration: 2–3 years for master’s students and 4 years for doctoral students. Scholarship holders must study full-time at Nanjing University, obey university rules and regulations, and complete study, research, and thesis writing at the university; no long-distance education and no school transferring are permitted. The scholarship is subject to an annual review of scholarship qualification, where failure leads to suspension or cancellation.

• Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens.Applicants must be healthy both physically and mentally.Master’s applicants must have acquired their bachelor’s degrees and must not be older than 35.Doctoral applicants must have acquired their master’s degrees and must not be older than 40.For graduates to obtain degrees within the stated degree timeline, applicants must submit a pre-graduation certificate to guarantee competence to complete study and acquire the degree by the stated time.Chinese-taught programs: admission requirements: Natural sciences/engineering/medicine require HSK level 4; Liberal arts/social sciences/business require HSK level 5.Chinese-taught programs: graduation requirements: Natural sciences/engineering/medicine require HSK level 5; Liberal arts/social sciences/business require HSK level 6.English-taught programs: admission requirements: IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL 85 / TOEFL Essentials 9 / Duolingo English Test 100.English-taught programs: graduation requirement: HSK level 3.Applicants who do not meet the listed language requirements will not be accepted.Students granted other Chinese scholarships or funding are not eligible for this scholarship.If a student is found to have the Chinese Government Scholarship and another Chinese scholarship at the same time, the Chinese Government Scholarship will be canceled immediately and the recipient will be required to return the scholarship received.Those who deliberately concealed the truth will not be permitted to apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship again within 3 years.Scholarship students should study full-time at Nanjing University.Scholarship students must obey the university’s rules and regulations.The study, research, and thesis writing should be finished at Nanjing University.No long-distance education is permitted.Transferring school is not allowed.Principally, students are not allowed to leave school during the school year unless during holidays.If there is an emergency, students can leave school only with the permission notice of their advisors and departments, along with approval from the Institute for International Students.If a student violates related regulations or leaves the university during the school year without permission, the scholarship shall be suspended or even canceled.Applicants for doctoral programs must upload transcripts of both the bachelor’s and master’s programs.Applicants for doctoral programs must supply the abstract of their master’s program’s graduation dissertation.Applicants applying for the programs of Architecture and Urban Planning must submit a portfolio of relevant works.

• Monthly allowance for master’s students: RMB 3,000.Monthly allowance for doctoral students: RMB 3,500.Tuition: waived.Health insurance: RMB 800/year.Lodging: free lodging in the international dormitory of the university for the entire scholarship duration.

6. 6. Apply on the CSC website using the stated Agency No. and selecting Program Type "B", and upload NJU’s pre-admission letter (and doctoral applicants’ personal statement with supervisor signature, if applicable).
