Nanjing University China Silk Road Scholarship

Chinese Government Scholarship is a scholarship set up by the Chinese government to facilitate students and scholars from around the world to conduct their study and research at Chinese universities. The scholarship aims to increase mutual understanding and friendship between China and people from the rest of the world, and to develop communication and cooperation in education, technology, culture, and economics.

Nanjing University lists the student type for this scholarship as bachelor’s students with the major “Chinese Language–Business Chinese,” instruction language Chinese, and school “Institute for International Students.” Applicants must be from a country on the list of Belt and Road countries and meet the stated age and education requirements.

Evaluation is based on rules of the scholarship while studying full time at Nanjing University, including compliance with school codes and university-based completion of study, research, and thesis writing. Scholarship students must take part in the annual assessment and evaluation of scholarship qualification from March to May. Students who fail the assessment may have the scholarship suspended or cancelled.

Support lasts for a scholarship duration of four. During the scholarship duration, awardees receive a monthly stipend of RMB 2,500, tuition is waived, health insurance is funded through an insurance fee of RMB 800, and free lodging is provided in the international dormitory. The scholarship can be suspended or cancelled if regulations are violated, if study leaves occur during the school year without permission, or if the scholarship qualification assessment is failed.

• For graduates who need to obtain their degrees during the cycle: submit a pre-graduation certificate to guarantee competence to complete the study and receive the diploma in July
• Admission language requirement: HSK level 5
• Graduation language requirement: HSK level 6
• HSK non-compliance: applicants who do not meet the HSK requirements will not be accepted
• Scholarship study mode: scholarship students must study full time at Nanjing University
• Residency requirement: the study, research, and thesis writing should be finished at Nanjing University; no long-distance education is permitted
• Transfer restriction: transferring school is not allowed
• Leave restriction: principally, students are not allowed to leave school during the school year (including visiting parents, referring to learning materials, or doing an internship during the school year), unless during vacations
• Emergency leave: if an emergency occurs, students can leave school with permission notice of advisors and departments and with approval of the Chinese Scholarship Council
• Regulation violations: if a student violates related regulations or leaves the university during the school year without permission, the scholarship shall be suspended or even cancelled
• Assessment participation: all scholarship students should take part in the annual assessment and evaluation of scholarship qualification
• Assessment outcome: if qualified, scholarship continues; scholarships of those who failed the assessment will be suspended or even cancelled

• Monthly stipend: RMB 2,500 (during the scholarship duration)

• Health insurance: insurance fee of RMB 800 (during the scholarship duration), and students are required to purchase the insurance accordingly
• Lodging: free lodging in the university’s international dormitory (for the entire duration of the scholarship)

1. Register for China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA). The test subject is Mathematics (in Chinese). For test schedule, format, and fees, refer to the official CSCA website.
2. Apply through the CSC website. The application duration is from 2026-01-01 to 2026-03-15. After filling in the online application form (Agency No.: fill in “10284”; Program Type: choose “B”), submit the form and download the application form.
3. Register and apply at Nanjing University’s China International Student Service System. Choose “CSC Scholarship Type B” for the program type.
4. Upload the required documents in the application system.
5. After submitting the online application, wait for feedback on initial review within 3 workdays. If notices for resubmission are received, re-upload documents as required by the application deadline.
6. Applicants who pass initial review proceed to further assessment in April and May, including long-distance written and oral tests; arrangements are sent to relevant students.
7. Nanjing University selects nominees from those who pass the assessment to recommend to the CSC. The CSC decides the final awardees list.
8. After receiving the final list confirmed by the CSC, Nanjing University informs applicants via email and system message and posts admission documents to new students.

• Medical certificate (南京大学外国人体格检查记录.doc, obtained within 6 months)

• Certificate of non-criminal record (obtained within 6 months)
• Confirmation of the Guardian in China (required if applicants will not have reached the age of 18 by Sept. 1, 2026)
• If an original document is neither written in Chinese nor in English: notarized Chinese or English translation
• Admission-stage items listed for registration review: admission notice, JW201 form (hard or soft copy), physical examination report, original highest diploma (plus notarized translation if not in Chinese or English)
