Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST), China Chinese Government Scholarship

The Chinese Government Scholarship—WMO Program is a scholarship established by the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE) for the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to sponsor international students to study and conduct research in meteorology in China. Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST) lists the program for master and doctoral study with English as the instruction language.

The program supports master and doctoral students in meteorology-related areas. It covers master programs in Meteorology and Applied Meteorology, and doctoral programs in multiple fields including Meteorology, Climate System and Climate Change, Applied Meteorology, Atmospheric Physics and Atmospheric Environment, and several remote sensing and related specializations. Applicants apply for study at NUIST.

Applicants apply to NUIST and WMO Secretariat. The process includes completing the online Chinese Government Scholarship Information System application, obtaining nomination from the Permanent Representative of the country with WMO, applying to NUIST for a pre-admission letter, and submitting the WMO Fellowship Nomination Form (FNF) and CSC online application copy plus the university pre-admission letter to WMO Secretariat before the deadline. WMO-recommended applicants’ documents are then considered by CSC for eligibility and qualification.

Support is described as a full scholarship covering tuition fee, free university dormitory, comprehensive medical insurance, and a stipend, with WMO sponsoring the round-trip international air ticket and the international insurance. Scholarship recipients receive a study approval process through CSC and WMO Secretariat. Recipients cannot change host university, field of study, or duration stated on the admission letter, must register by the registration deadline to keep the scholarship, and must attend an annual review at the end of each academic year.

• Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China.

• For master’s program: applicants must be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying.
• For doctoral program: applicants must be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying.
• Applicants must have a good learning attitude and outstanding academic records (CGPA 3.0 or above out of 4).
• Applicants must meet the admission requirements of the university in terms of academic ability and other relevant criteria.

• Stipend (master’s students): CNY 3,000 per month.
• Stipend (doctoral students): CNY 3,500 per month.
• Round-trip international air ticket: sponsored by WMO.

1. Complete the online application procedure in the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (visit http://www.campuschina.org, click “Scholarship Application for Students” to log in), submit the completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship online, and print a hard copy (sign and date); select “Program Category A” and set the Agency Number to 00002.
2. Obtain nomination from the Permanent Representative of the country with WMO.
3. Apply to NUIST for a Pre-admission Letter by completing the NUIST online application (visit http://nuist.17gz.org/member/login.do); choose Chinese Government Scholarship and submit application documents including the WMO Fellowship Nomination Form (FNF).
4. Submit the WMO FNF, a copy of the CSC online application form, and the university pre-admission letter to the WMO Secretariat before the deadline.

• Language qualification certificates (TOEFL iBT 80+ / IELTS 6.0+ for applicants for English-taught programs from non-English speaking countries).
• A research proposal (written in Chinese or English; more than 1,000 characters or words).
• Two letters of recommendation (written only in Chinese or English) from professors or associate professors.
• A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (original kept by the applicant).
• Non-criminal record report (valid certificate issued by the local public security authority).
• WMO Fellowship Nomination Form (FNF).
• NUIST Pre-admission Notice.
• Other supporting materials (such as published papers, job certificate, certificates of awards and training, supervisor’s acceptance letter, etc.).
