Southwest University (SWU) Silk Road Scholarships

Southwest University offers the New Silk Road Scholarship to finance students from countries along the Belt and Road who have established joint study projects or agreements with SWU. The scholarship is provided in different categories depending on the type selected: Type A includes tuition and a living allowance, while Type B covers tuition.

The scholarship is aimed at non-Chinese citizens along the Belt and Road with relevant joint study projects or agreements with SWU. It supports undergraduate, graduate, and PhD applicants, with category coverage determined by whether the applicant selects Type A or Type B.

Eligibility includes meeting grade requirements (a minimum cumulative GPA and a minimum score) and language proficiency requirements (providing a language certificate such as HSK, TOEFL-ibt, or IELTS and demonstrating language proficiency for daily communication and academic presentation in a Chinese campus). Applicants must also not be sponsored by any other scholarships in China. Scholarship holders are also subject to restrictions on switching scholarship types while studying in China.

Support duration is tied to study duration: 4 years for undergraduate, 2-3 years for graduate, and 4 years for PhD. Continued eligibility depends on a comprehensive assessment of performance during the previous academic year to determine whether the scholarship holder qualifies to continue receiving the scholarship in each month of May. Medical insurance coverage and accommodation fees are excluded for both Type A and Type B.

• Language proficiency must meet requirements for daily communication and academic presentation in a Chinese campus
• Not yet sponsored by any other scholarships in China
• Only one type of scholarship can be held while studying in China
• Students already covered by a certain type of scholarship in China are not eligible to apply for and switch to a new type of scholarship while studying in China

• Type A: tuition
• Type A living allowance: Undergraduate CNY 1100 per month
• Type A living allowance: Graduate CNY 1400 per month
• Type A living allowance: PhD CNY 1700 per month
• Type B: tuition
• Does not cover medical insurance: CNY 800 per year
• Does not cover accommodation fee
