USTC China Undergraduate Fellowship

USTC Fellowship for Undergraduate Programs has two levels. Level A, funded by USTC, includes tuition waiver, comprehensive medical insurance, a monthly stipend, and an accommodation subsidy. Level B, funded by USTC, includes tuition waiver. The purpose is described through the stated package components for undergraduate international students.

The fellowship is for applicants applying to USTC undergraduate programs. Applicants create an account in the USTC Application System and select the fellowship level(s) they want to apply for, and they can apply for one level or both levels at the same time.

USTC decides which level of the fellowship may be given based on a comprehensive evaluation of the applicant. Each applicant can only be supported by one scholarship.

What is stated is that admission and registration requirements include submitting certain certificates to ensure study completion and degree attainment by the stated target month.

• Non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport, in good physical and mental health.
• Having passed new HSK Level 5 or above.
• Applicants whose native language is Chinese, or can provide proof of studying at a high school where the teaching language is Chinese, can apply for HSK test exemption.
• Emigrants from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan applying as international students must obtain their current foreign citizenship before April 30th.
• Emigrants listed above must live abroad for at least 2 years during the period between April 30th and April 30th, with more than 9 months of residence abroad per year possibly considered as one year.
• Applicants born in a foreign country with one or both parents who are Chinese citizens must provide one of the following: proof of permanent residence in a foreign country of the applicant’s parents at the time of the applicant’s birth or prior to it; proof that the applicant completed the renunciation of Chinese nationality; or the applicant’s People’s Republic of China Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card.
• The conditions set by Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC (Annex I) should be met.
• Applicants must hold a high school diploma (equivalent to high school diploma in China) by July.
• Applicants must be under the age of 30 by September 1st.
• Graduates who need to obtain degrees by July must submit a Pre-graduation Certificate to ensure completion and degree attainment by July.
• Applicants who have been granted other Chinese scholarship or funds (2026-2027) cannot apply for this scholarship.

1. Create an account in the online USTC application system.
2. Fill in all the information and upload the required documents.
3. Select the fellowship level you want to apply for in the USTC Application System.
4. Submit the application.
5. After submission, keep checking the email box used for login for further application documentation and online interview information.

• Photocopy of passport (including pages with Chinese visa or residence permit, if applicable).
• Notarized photocopies of senior high school graduation certificate and transcripts; if graduating before July, provide a Pre-graduation Certificate (original senior high school graduation certificate and transcripts are required upon registration if admitted).
• Photocopies of Certificate of new HSK Level 5 and transcripts (original certificate and transcripts required upon registration if admitted); or proof of studying at a high school where the teaching language is Chinese.
• Foreigner Physical Examination Form (Annex III).
• Recommendation letter from senior high school (original copy in Chinese or English).
• Guardian Statement (Annex IV) if the applicant is under 18 by Sept. 1st, with the guardian needing to stay in Hefei during the period of the applicant’s studying at USTC and having a stable source of living.
• For emigrants from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan applying as international students: immigration certificate; proof of cancellation of the original Chinese citizenship; photocopy of passport pages with customs stamps (exit and entry) from April 30 to March 31; and proof of living abroad from April 30 to March 31.
• For applicants born in a foreign country with one or both parents who are Chinese citizens: one of the listed documents (proof of parents’ permanent residence abroad; proof of renunciation of Chinese nationality; or the People’s Republic of China Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card).
• If test score reports are submitted: SAT, IB, GCE A-Level, ACT, or AST (results valid for two years from the exam date).
• Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must include notarized translations in Chinese or English.
• Application materials are not returned regardless of the application result.
