USTC Fellowship Awards

USTC Fellowship for undergraduate programs has two levels: Level A, funded by USTC, includes tuition waiver, comprehensive medical insurance, monthly stipend of 2,500 RMB, and accommodation subsidy; Level B, funded by USTC, includes tuition waiver. USTC decides which level may be given based on a comprehensive evaluation of the applicant.

Applicants apply through the USTC Application System by selecting the fellowship level they want to apply for; applicants can apply for one level or two levels at the same time. Each applicant can only be supported by one scholarship. The award is for non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport who meet the listed academic and background conditions.

USTC evaluates applications comprehensively to decide the level of the fellowship. Application materials are submitted through the online application system, and applicants should monitor their login email for further application documentation and online interview information. Support is limited to what is included in Level A or Level B, and applicants may be required to submit a Pre-graduation Certificate to ensure study completion and degree obtainment by July of.

• Non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport, in good physical and mental health.
• Having passed new HSK Level 5 or above; applicants whose native language is Chinese, or can provide proof of studying at a high school where the teaching language is Chinese, can apply for HSK test exemption.
• Emigrants from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan applying as international students must obtain their current foreign citizenship before April 30th.
• Emigrants from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan must live abroad for at least 2 years during the period between April 30th and April 30th.
• Applicants born in a foreign country and whose one or both parents are Chinese citizens must have one of: proof of permanent residence in a foreign country of the applicant’s parents at the time of the applicant’s birth or prior to it; proof of completion of renunciation of Chinese nationality; or the applicant’s People’s Republic of China Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card.
• The conditions set by the Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC (Annex I) should be met.
• Applicants must hold a high school diploma (equivalent to high school diploma in China) by July.
• Applicants must be under the age of 30 by September 1st.
• Graduation condition: for the graduates to obtain their degrees in 2026, they should submit a Pre-graduation Certificate to ensure they will complete their study and obtain the degree by July of 2026.
• Applicants who have been granted for other Chinese scholarship or funds cannot apply for this scholarship.
• Applicants under 18 by Sept. 1st must submit a Guardian Statement; the guardian has to stay in Hefei during the period of applicant’s studying at USTC.

1. Create an account in the USTC online application system.
2. Select the fellowship level you want to apply for (apply for one level or two levels at the same time).
3. Fill in all information and upload the required documents.
4. After submission, check the email box used for login in the application system for further application documentation and online interview information.

• Photocopy of passport (including pages with Chinese visa or residence permit, if applicable).
• Notarized photocopies of senior high school graduation certificate and transcripts; if graduating before July, provide Pre-graduation Certificate; original senior high school graduation certificate and transcripts are required upon registration if admitted.
• Photocopies of Certificate of new HSK Level 5 and transcripts (original certificate and transcripts are required upon registration if admitted); or proof of studying at a high school where the teaching language is Chinese.
• Foreigner Physical Examination Form (Annex III).
• Recommendation letter from senior high school (original copy in Chinese or English).
• Guardian Statement (Annex IV) for applicants under 18 by Sept. 1st, with the guardian staying in Hefei during the period of study at USTC.
• For emigrants applying as international students: immigration certificate; proof of cancellation of original Chinese citizenship; photocopy of passport pages with customs stamps (exit and entry) from April 30th to March 31st; proof of living abroad from April 30th to March 31st.
• For applicants born in a foreign country with one or both parents Chinese citizens: one of proof of permanent residence in a foreign country of the parents; proof of renunciation of Chinese nationality; or the PRC Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card.
• SAT, IB, GCE A-Level, ACT, or AST test score reports (if submitted, results are valid for two years from examination date).
• Notarized translations in Chinese or English for documents in languages other than Chinese or English.
• Application materials are not returned regardless of application result.
