Introduction

Communications & Media is a Bachelor program taught at Canadian Mennonite University, Canada. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

The Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) Communications and Media BA prepares students to tell meaningful stories that connect people, challenge ideas, and spark understanding. Students study communication through critical reflection and creative production, with work across writing, design, audio, video, and strategy. The program also examines how history, ethics, politics, psychology, culture, and religion shape communication, and how context affects messages.

CMU emphasizes learning by doing. Students complete hands-on activities from their first classes, including audio production, pitching stories, design, and communication strategy. Every student completes at least one work placement as part of the degree, with placements described across radio and podcast production, marketing or public relations, graphic design or social media management, journalism or content creation internships, and communications roles in churches, arts organizations, or advocacy groups.

The program is designed for students who want to engage audiences and represent religious and spiritual convictions with accuracy, nuance, and care. It leads to careers in media, storytelling, and strategic communication, including roles such as journalist, podcast producer, broadcaster, communications officer, media coordinator, and content strategist.
