Bachelor's in Music Therapy
Introduction
Music Therapy is a Bachelor program taught at Canadian Mennonite University, Canada. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
Canadian Mennonite University’s Bachelor of Music Therapy trains students to use music in hospitals, schools, care homes, and community settings to support mental health, development, and quality of life. The program combines music, psychology, and hands-on clinical training. Students study human development, mental health, neuroscience, and counselling, then apply what they learn in supervised placements.
Clinical learning is built in from the start. Students lead sessions, work with real clients, and receive structured feedback from certified music therapists. The degree includes three supervised practicum placements and a 1,000-hour internship before graduation. Students also conduct assessments, write treatment plans, and evaluate outcomes, and they develop musicianship skills for therapeutic use.
The program is accredited by the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT) and prepares students for board certification. Graduates become Certified Music Therapists (MTA) and work as part of interdisciplinary teams in settings such as hospitals, schools, long-term care facilities, mental health programs, and developmental services.
