Introduction

Collaborative Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program is a PhD program taught at Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Canada. Intake: Fall. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (four-year program) options.

The Collaborative Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program (CDVMP) is a partnership between Lakehead University and the University of Guelph’s Ontario Veterinary College. It trains Northern students to become licensed veterinarians and leads to a fully accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree awarded by the University of Guelph’s Ontario Veterinary College. The program is designed to serve rural, remote, and Indigenous communities.

Students follow a collaborative model that divides their time between Lakehead University and the University of Guelph. Northern Cohort students complete the full four-year program at the University of Guelph in the period described, and later begin the program in Thunder Bay and complete it in Guelph after Lakehead’s new educational facilities are complete. The program includes hands-on, community-based learning, with practicum and experiential placements at northern veterinary clinics.

Admission is limited to applicants who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents and residents of northern Ontario, with defined residency and academic eligibility. Students apply through the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph using OUAC and select the “Northern Ontario Cohort.”
