Bachelor's in French Studies
Introduction
French Studies is a Bachelor program taught at Mount Allison University, Canada. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
French Studies at Mount Allison University builds abilities in the language and increases awareness of French, French-Canadian, and francophone literatures and cultures. Students take first and second-year courses to establish a foundation in written and spoken French, supported by grammar practice in the language laboratory or tutorial groups. Upper year courses refine spoken and written French and study areas of French and French-Canadian literatures and cultures, along with theories of literary criticism.
Most French curriculum courses are delivered in French, with some culture courses taught in English. The Language Lab in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures provides a dedicated space to practice French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. Students also choose study abroad and other programs, and may transfer credits toward their French Studies course requirements.
French Studies is available as a BA major (60 credits), BA honours (66 credits), or a Minor in any degree (24 credits). Some courses require a minimum standard of competency in French, and placement in the first French course is decided using a French Language Skills Assessment.
