Introduction
Biomedical Engineering is a Bachelor program taught at University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
Biomedical Engineering at the University of Calgary is a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSc in Eng). Students study topics that connect engineering with health-focused applications, including courses such as Computing for Engineers, Biology for Engineers, Introduction to Biomedical Engineering, Anatomy and Physiology for Engineers, and Biomedical Engineering Processes. The program includes a design backbone that supports critical thinking and problem solving across the Biomedical Engineering program.
The Biomedical Engineering program has a common first year with 10 courses in mathematics, sciences, computing, engineering principles, communications, and design. Most courses include hands-on, experiential laboratory sessions to reinforce concepts taught in lectures. Leadership skills development is supported through open-ended projects and group work, and students can interact with local industry and researchers through a design backbone and course projects.
The program includes an Engineering Career Centre that provides access to engineering career advisors and a full-time paid engineering work experience through a 12-16 month placement. The program connects learning to career opportunities in the biotech, pharma, and med-tech sectors, and it can also open doors for graduate studies or professional degrees such as medicine, veterinary medicine, or law.
