Introduction

Autonomous Systems and Intelligent Robots - ICT Innovation (EIT Digital Master School), Master of Science (Technology) is a Masters program taught at Aalto University, Finland. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (2 years) options.

Autonomous Systems and Intelligent Robots is a Master of Science (Technology) in ICT Innovation at Aalto University. It covers autonomous systems, AI-powered robots, autonomous machines, intelligent devices and instruments, industrial systems, and advanced software systems. The programme uses AI, sensing, control, embedded systems, connectivity and software to study how these systems perceive their environment, make decisions, learn from data and act with increasing independence.

The two-year programme is organised as a double degree with study at two universities in two different countries. It totals 120 ECTS credits and includes a 60 ECTS major, a 30 ECTS Innovation and Entrepreneurship minor, and a 30 ECTS master’s thesis. The first year provides foundation courses in robotics, artificial intelligence or machine learning, and modelling, estimation and control. In the second year, students choose a specialisation; at Aalto University this is Intelligent Robots and Systems.

The Aalto specialisation includes robotics and autonomous systems courses with theoretical foundations, core methodologies and hands-on skills. It includes elective courses in autonomous mobile robots, micro- and nano-robotics, neurorobotics, computer vision, robot manipulation, model-based control, sensor fusion and machine learning methods. Compulsory innovation and entrepreneurship courses are also part of the specialisation.
