Introduction

Doctoral Programme in Computing and Electrical Engineering is a PhD program taught at Tampere University, Finland. Intake: Autumn. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Tampere University describes the Doctoral Programme in Computing and Electrical Engineering as a broad multidisciplinary programme in computing and electrical engineering. It covers seven scientific research fields: electronics, signal processing and machine learning, electrical engineering, communications engineering, computing, mathematics, and data science and statistical data analysis. The programme links these fields to information processing, digitalisation, electrification of energy systems, data networks, information security, software, and information and automation systems.

Studies are organised around doctoral research, other disciplines related to the research topic, and general expertise studies. Each doctoral student draws up a personal study and supervisory plan with a supervisor. The plan covers doctoral coursework, the course schedule, other modes of study, and the dissertation schedule and publication plan. Studies and supervision are intended to last four years, and the target completion time for full-time students is four years. The dissertation may be a monograph or an article-based dissertation, and it is defended in public after pre-examination.

The programme leads to the degrees Doctor of Science in Technology and Doctor of Philosophy. Tampere University says doctoral education prepares students for demanding expertise in academia, research institutes, international organisations, the private and public sectors, and industry.
