The study format is berufsbegleitend. It is organised with three in-person weeks per semester plus four hours of online teaching per week during the lecture period. This creates time for practical experience in the workplace on three days per week and for study content on the other two days per week. State recognition for social work can be acquired with suitable activity alongside the studies or after completion through a professional internship.

Admission requires general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur). For the subject Social Work (Soziale Arbeit) there is no NC (numerus clausus). Applicants with Fachhochschulreife or a completed vocational qualification may be admitted via an admission test (Zulassungsprüfung).
