Master of Design Programme

Master of Design Programme is a Masters program taught at Vellore Institute of Technology, India. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (2 years programme) options.

The Master of Design (M.Des) is a two-year program focused on hands-on designing varied products across domains such as Toy design, Consumer products, crafted artefacts, smart products, Healthcare Products, Furniture, Mobility, and other evolving domains. Students develop design sensibilities while learning current methods and executing best practices for sustainable products inclusive of circular economy aspects.

Learning includes training in digital products such as User Experience Design (UxD) and Interaction Design. Students can specialize in Sustainable Product Design, Product Semantics, Ergonomics, Space Design, Mobility Design and Artificial Intelligence. The curriculum includes Product Sketching and Rendering, Workshop skills and Prototyping Techniques, Design Process, Computer Aided Design, Interaction Design, and portfolio-focused modules such as Product Presentation and Portfolio Making.

The minimum requirements for admission in Master of Design Programme at Vellore Institute of Technology for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:

• program specific academic requirment set by Vellore Institute of Technology.
• English Language OR any other language requirments as set by Vellore Institute of Technology as pre-requiste for admission in Master of Design Programme.

It is mandatory to write VITMEE and the selection is based on the score obtained either in VIT Masters Entrance Examination (VITMEE) Test (OR) Common Entrance Exam for design (CEED).

• A full-time degree (10+2+4 or 5 years) from any recognized University/Institute in any Engineering, Science, Applied Arts*, Architecture or Design degree with a minimum aggregate of 60% or first class alone are eligible to apply.
• Candidates appearing for their final degree exam / final semester exam in the current year are also eligible to apply.
• A minimum of 60% aggregate in 10th and 12th std.
• Applicants from Open University / Correspondence mode are ineligible to apply.
• The applicant for admission should be a Resident Indian National and should have graduated from institutions located in India.
• Foreign and NRI / PIO candidates must apply separately.
• Candidates with a full-time degree (10 +2 +3 or 4 or 5 years) from any recognised University/Institute in any Engineering, Science, Applied Arts*, Architecture or Design degree with a minimum aggregate of 60% or first class are eligible to apply.
• Candidates with a valid CEED score will be given priority.
• Only Candidates with valid VITMEE score (based on the cut-off), will be notified for the one on one interview with the interview panel.
• During the Personal interview, PORTFOLIO - Presentation of their original creative works showcasing their versatility will be evaluated along with their overall communication and presentation skills.
