Motion Picture Engineering - Micro-credential
Introduction
Motion Picture Engineering - Micro-credential is a program taught at Trinity College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland. Intake: January. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (12 weeks) options.
Motion Picture Engineering - Micro-credential at Trinity College Dublin is a 10 ECTS, Level 9 micro-credential for engineers interested in the design of engineering systems for video streaming and cinema production platforms.
It covers the mathematical underpinnings of algorithms for rotoscoping, matting, and motion estimation, along with the practice of developing a tool in a high-end platform, then moves to the fundamentals of video compression technology and its use in content aware transcoding. The course also covers mathematical fundamentals of deep learning algorithms affecting these areas.
The course is delivered in a blended format (in-person/online) built around 7 contact hours per week. It includes a fixed 3-hour and 2-hour block for practical work and 1-hour blocks for lecture material during day time hours. In the first two weeks, the 3-hour blocks introduce the NUKE cinema compositor and its programming environment. Students complete 4 exercises and 1 mini-project, including a 4-page paper on a colour-keyer in NUKE, plus quizzes and practical laboratory exercises.
This micro-credential has one intake per year in January. It is designed for engineers with graduate engineering knowledge in DSP/Signals and Systems (or equivalent experience) and a Level 8 award with a 2.1 grade in Engineering or a cognate discipline, supported by a CV & transcript.
