Master of Philosophy By Research

Master of Philosophy By Research is a Masters program taught at Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak Campus, Malaysia. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (Full-time: minimum of one year and maximum of two years. Par) options.

The Master of Philosophy (By Research) (MPhil) is designed to deepen knowledge beyond undergraduate honours or postgraduate diploma levels, culminating in a research thesis. The program is a higher degree by research with at least two-thirds of the program dedicated to research. It may include some coursework, but the core work is developing a thesis under a supervisory team, with an original contribution to the field.

Students complete independent study focused on designing and conducting substantial research. The degree supports either full-time or part-time study. Enrolment is for a minimum period of one year and a maximum period of two years for full-time study, or a minimum of two years and a maximum of four years for part-time study. International candidates must enrol as a full-time student.

The minimum requirements for admission in Master of Philosophy By Research at Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak Campus for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:

• English Language OR any other language requirments as set by Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak Campus as pre-requiste for admission in Master of Philosophy By Research.

To be eligible for admission to a Master by Research program, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:

• Graduated with or qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor with First-Class Honours or Second-Class Honours in the field or related fields within Curtin University with minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent; or
• Graduated with or qualified for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in the field or related fields within Curtin University; or
• Graduated with or qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor in the field or related fields within Curtin University with minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent; or
• Graduated with or qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor in the field or related fields within Curtin University with minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent and not meeting CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent subject to rigorous internal assessment; or
• Graduated with or qualified for the award of the degree of Bachelor in the field or related fields within Curtin University with minimum CGPA of 2.00 or equivalent and not meeting CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in the relevant field and rigorous internal assessment.; or
• Obtained qualifications from another institution which are recognised by tertiary admissions authorities in Australia and which are deemed to be equivalent to any of the above criteria.

Candidates without a qualification in the related fields or relevant working experience must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by the University and meet the minimum CGPA above.
